Pratapgarh, UP, Mar 10 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team in Kunda, Uttar Pradesh has appealed to the villagers to become eye-witnesses in connection with the killings of Deputy Superintendent of Police Zia-ul-Haque and two others at Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh.

The 10-member CBI team has set up a camp office and a helpline number in Pratapgarh and has also assured the villagers immumity from any kind of harassment.

The probe agency has named former Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya and four others in one of its four FIRs.

The biggest challenge faced by the agency now is to convince these villagers to give their accounts as they have witnessed the crime while it was committed.

According to reports, some 300 people were present when the murder happened. Many of the villagers of Balipur, where the shootings took place, have disappeared to avoid the questions by authorites.

Following a request from the Uttar Pradesh government, the Centre had handed over to the CBI the probe into the killings of Zia-ul-Haque and two others in the state.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday ordered a CBI inquiry into the killing of Zia-ul-Haque.

Akhilesh Yadav had earlier visited the family of slain village head Nanhe Yadav at Kunda town in Uttar Pradesh and said people involved in the conspiracy will not be spared.

Zia-ul-Haque along with Gram Pradhan of Balipur village Nanhe Yadav and his brother were killed on Saturday.

Raja Bhaiya had aslo resigned after he was booked a day ago in the killing of the Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Akhilesh Yadav told media: "Whichever minister has been involved in wrongdoing, we will definitely order an enquiry."

The police, however, have not questioned or arrested Raja Bhaiya so far.

Meanwhile, the autopsy report of Zia-ul-Haque has revealed that the cop, who went to probe into the murder of Pradhan (village headman) and his brother in the Kunda village was beaten and dragged along the ground before being shot dead, the Uttar Pradesh police said. He had severe injuries on his legs and head.

It is also not clear whether the bullet that killed the cop was shot from his own revolver as it is missing along with the bullet that killed him.

The autopsy report revealed that his body was marked by "lacerated wounds and abrasions" and that he died of "hemorrhage and shock" from a gunshot wound to the right of his chest, said reports.

According to allegations, the four men accused of dragging and killing the slain cop were men of Raja Bhaiya.
