Uttar Pradesh has become "crime pradesh" under the new the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) government, former Chief Minister of the state Mayawati said on Sunday.
The law and order situation in the state is worrying and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has failed to keep the state free of crime and violence, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief said.
"The UP government has failed badly on law and order front. Now Uttar Pradesh has become not 99 per cent but 100 per cent crime pradesh," she said in New Delhi, adding that the people have realised the mistake of voting SP to power.
"If you go to any district of the state and ask the common people, they will say we have made a big mistake. We have voted the wrong party to power...the BSP government was far better," she said.
Trashing the charges as "baseless accusation", Chief Minister Yadav said, "SP government in the state is continuously reviewing the law and order and those found involved in anti-social activities would not be spared and strict action will be taken against them."
