New Delhi, Jan 9 (IBNS) The Election Commission of India (ECI), which announced to reschedule the poll dates in Uttar Pradesh owing to logistical problem and a festival, on Monday confirmed that the balloting for 60 constituencies scheduled on Feb 4 would now be held on March 3.
The election schedule for other phases of UP Assembly Election shall remain the same, except the date of counting, which shall now be Mar 6.
The Commission has further decided that the counting of votes in the other four states- Manipur, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab- will be held along with Uttar Pradesh on Mar 6 instead of Mar 4.
Polling for the seven-phase elections in UP was to begin on Feb 4, but owing to the date of 'Barawafat' festival it was rescheduled.
"Further, the law and order enforcing agencies provided to the Commission fresh inputs with respect to maintenance of Law & Order, availability and movement of security forces, logistics and other issues in various phases of conduct of elections," the EC press note said.
