Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh on Saturday hit out at the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and said it has failed on all fronts.
"The Congress-led UPA government has put this country in crisis..This government has failed on all fronts. If preventive steps are not taken then the situation will only get worse," Rajnath Singh said while addressing a press conference here on Saturday.
"The economic growth of the country is fast deteriorating," he said.
Rajnath Singh made the remarks a day after former Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar and ex-Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal tendered their resignations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday.
Raising the issue, Rajnath Singh said: "Yesterday two ministers had to tender their resignations due to allegations of corruption. This has raised serious questions on the credibility of the government."
"I will like to know from Ashwani Kumar who is he defending," Rajnath Singh said.
Attacking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Rajnath Singh said: "I am requesting the Prime Minister to introspect. If he introspects properly then resignation is the only option for him."
Kumar and Pawan Kumar Bansal handed over their resignation letters to the Prime Minister on Friday, giving in to intense opposition pressure.
Kumar had come under attack for purportedly interfering with a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) report into the coal scam by trying to tweak its wordings and was forced to resign on a day that also saw the resignation of Bansal on graft charges.
The Supreme Court has slammed the government for meddling in a CBI report on the coal scam that also targets the Prime Minister and called the federal investigating agency a "caged parrot" of the ruling government.
