Upbeat over the successful winning of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) polls, Sukhbir Singh Badal, President, Shiromani Akali Dal and Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab, today said that the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) will be contesting the forthcoming assembly elections of various states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttrakhand and Madhya Pradesh on their own party symbol.

Badal was interacting with media here along with Bikram Singh Majithia, President of the Youth Akali Dal and the state's Minister for Information and Public Relations after a felicitation function for newly elected members of Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee held at Teja Singh Samundari Hall here today.

Badal said that Shiromani Akali Dal already has its MLA in Haryana and it had contested seats in Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections and now the party would be deciding to put up its candidates on those seats where Sikh population was in dominance to fulfill the aspiration of Sikhs.

However, he said, that the decision would be taken after making consultations with their time tested polls partner Bhartiya Janata Party on the issue. It is pertinent to mention that Badals have been alleging Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and the Congress Party joining hands with Sarnas and their interference into the Gurdwara body throughout.

"Since the people of Delhi have rejected the Congress-backed Sarnas, they wanted that they take on the Congress head-on," said Badal.

Bikram Majithia said that the people of Delhi have understood the party's contributions to the development of Punjab, and thus, they have supported them.

"We will be contesting the assembly polls and the party would soon be taking a decision regarding this", said Majithia. On the question of Modi being projected as the NDA's prime ministerial candidate, Badal said that the SAD had been consistent in its views and would go with the choice of the opposition alliance on this issue. When asked about the Moga bye-election, Badal said that he was sure that Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Joginder Pal Jain would win the election by a record margin.

Addressing the newly-elected members of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, Badal said this election was a lesson for all of us that we all have to act as humble servants of the Sikh community.

Outlining the agenda of the new committee, Badal said that it should encourage transparency in its working and financial management.

He said the committee would soon constitute an education board to properly manage schools and colleges being run by the committee.

Badal said that the Shiromani Akali Dal is committed to fulfill all promises made to the electorate in its manifesto.

Earlier, the new members of the DSGMC paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Harmandir Sahib.
