The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday condemned one of the party's foundation day celebrations at Bhangore area in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Tuesday where some party workers danced with women and threw money on them on the stage.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee´s party assured that it will take action against ´any party worker´ who was involved in the incident.

TMC MP Derek O´Brien tweeted: "On Jan 1, thousands of events marked Trinamool´s 16th birthday. At one event there is an abhorrent incident involving ladies dancing."

"It was an isolated incident and the strictest action will be taken against any party worker involved. This is absolutely non-negotiable," he said.

"For Trinamool, cultural sensibilities and gender sensibilities are paramount. After 34 years of mocking,we are committed to redeem these," Derek said.

Speaking to NDTV, he said: "You can rest assured we will take action within 48 hours."

The incident, a recording of which was aired on local television channels on Tuesday, triggered a controversy.

"The celebrations that took place right opposite the local police station, were sponsored by the Trinamool Congress party and organised by Trinamool zila parishad member Meer Taheer Ali," CNN-IBN reported.

The Opposition and members of the civil society have termed the show as "vulgar".

"This is very sad and shocking... I have never seen any such thing in my life," NDTV quoted noted theatre director and actor Usha Ganguly as saying.
