Burdwan, West Bengal, Oct 14 (IBNS): A school student died after she was pushed off by her 'rejected lover' from a train compartment in West Bengal's Burdwan district on Saturday, police said on Sunday.

Sujaya Basak, who is a class Class XI student, was allegedly pushed off by her classmate from the Katwa-Bandel local between Kalinagar and Samuidragarh stations when she refused his proposal.

The victim was returning from her tuition class when the incident happened at around 10 am on Saturday.

The accused started quarreling with the girl after she turned down his proposal.

The accused then dragged and pushed her out of the running train, reports said.

He then fled from the spot.

According to reports, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad members and local people demonstrated outside the Kalna Government Railway Police (GRP) station on Saturday and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

The protesters reportedly prevented the police from taking Basak´s body for autopsy.

"We have already interrogated two of her female friends who were travelling with her at that time and started an investigation," Tapan Das, OC of GRP, Kalna, told TOI.
