Boston: Based on an overhearing of a Boston police scanner and egged on by Reddit, the internet and later the American mainstream media, had a meltdown moment where they declared that Sunil Tripathi, a half-Indian Bostonian who had gone missing several months ago, was the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing.

Americans were quick to ask for his arrest and/or killing online while the Indian twitter crowd quickly lost itself in a series of discussions about Tripathi's 'Brahmin' and 'Hindu' roots.

However, a few short hours later the Boston police clarified that Tripathi was not a suspect and revealed that they real suspects - Two brothers of Chechnen orgin - Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

Several hours after the matter had cooled down, Tripathi's family, who are still anxiously searching for their missing son, posted this response on FaceBook -

"A tremendous and painful amount of attention has been cast on our beloved Sunil Tripathi in the past twelve hours.

We have known unequivocally all along that neither individual suspected as responsible for the Boston Marathon bombings was Sunil.

We are grateful to all of you who have followed us on Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit—supporting us over the recent hours.

Now more than ever our greatest strength comes from your enduring support. We thank all of you who have reached out to our family and ask that you continue to raise awareness and to help us find our gentle, loving, and thoughtful Sunil."
