West Indies win World Twenty20

West Indies lifted the World Twenty20 title by defeating Sri Lanka by 36 runs in the thrilling final at R Premadasa Stadium here on Sunday.

West Indies scored 137 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.

Marlon Samuels remained the top scorer for West Indies with his 78 runs from 56 deliveries.

Ajantha Mendis picked up four wickets by giving away 12 runs in his four overs for the hosts.

Chasing 138 for victory, Sri Lanka were all out at 101 runs in 18.4 overs.

Spinner Sunil Narine picked up three wickets for West Indies.
