A woman panchayat member, who was shot by suspected militants in Sopore area in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla District, is presently recuperating at a Srinagar Hospital where she was referred to for treatment.
Zoona, 45, was rushed to a hospital in Srinagar this morning.
Her son, Nasser Ahmad, recalled the untoward incident, while speaking to the media here.
"Last evening, some men came to our house and knocked on our window, my mother opened the window. The men asked my mother to come outside; both my mother and father went outside and started talking to the men. I was inside the house, but I could see my parents talking to the men. My mother asked me to remain indoors and then suddenly I saw them shooting her," he said.
Doctors treating her said that she was critically injured. One bullet hit Zoona, wife of Mohammad Ramzan, on her eye and another went through her neck.
No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
This is the third such attack in two days, as suspected militants had earlier gunned down two other village council heads.
