Bilaspur: An ardent devotee here on Tuesday slit her tongue and offered it to goddess Mahamaya here on Tuesday, police said.
The 45-year-old Beena Dubey slit her tongue in front of the goddess in Mahamaya temple on Tuesday morning, in charge of Sarkanda police station Rajendra Parihar, under whose jurisdiction the temple falls, said.

The woman was taken to Bilaspur Civil Hospital with a profusely bleeding mouth and a part of her tongue popping out, he said.
Dubey's family members told police that she was an ardent devotee of the Mahamaya and talked about seeing the goddess in her dreams, Parihar said.
Police are quizzing eyewitnesses to the incident.
