Palghar: Two women who were arrested for questioning  the total shutdown of the city for Shiv Sena leader, Bal Thackeray's funeral on Sunday were granted bail. They were arrested by the Mumbai police in the afternoon and sent to judicial custody. The Mumbai city police has initially denied arresting the girls according to reports.

Maharashtra police has now  ordered  an enquiry into girls' arrest. They will look into merits of charges.

Shaheen Dhada, had written on her Facebook page, "We should remember Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev", two martyrs of India's independence struggle. Her friend Renu had "liked" the post.

The women were booked under Section 295 (a) of the IPC (for hurting religious sentiments) and Section 64 (a) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

In retaliation, a mob of some 2,000 Shiv Sena workers attacked and ransacked her uncle’s orthopaedic clinic at Palghar. This despite the fact that the girl withdrew the comment and apologised for the same.

No action has been taken against the vandals thus far.
