The government may have de-recognised the Archery Association of India (AAI), but the International Archery Federation (FITA) on Sunday upheld the election of the association and offered all possible support for the future.

The government de-recognised the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) and Archery Association of India (AAI) on Friday over the suspicion of irregularities in their modes of functioning including the conduct of polls.

The decision came after the IABF was suspended by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) for 'possible manipulation' of its elections, in the wake of a wider Olympic ban that has left sports in the Asian country reeling.

Vijay Kumar Malhotra, President of the AAI, revealed a letter from FITA secretary general, Tom Dielen, which recognizes the election conducted by the Indian body.

"They (FITA) have said that they were with us, we had clarified this earlier that the election should be held under the constitution of the archery association, the rules were followed, they are with us and if we need any support, they are ready to give it," said Malhotra.

Prior to these developments, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has announced suspension of the IABF and AAI with immediate effect.

On Tuesday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the IOA for allowing government interference in the election and said the body was no longer entitled to conduct the poll. (ANI)
