World T20: Australia beat WI by D/L method

Australia defeated West Indies by 17 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis (D/L) method in a World T20 match at R Premadasa Stadium here on Saturday.

Chasing, 192 runs for victory, Australian openers gave a terrific start to the innings and scored quick runs in the match.

Shane Watson shined with the bat and remained not out at 41 runs from 24 balls. He hit two boundaries and three sixes in the game.

David Warner hit 28 runs from14 deliveries that included three boundaries and two sixes.

Mike Hussey remained not out at 28 runs. He hit three boundaries and a six.

Australia had scored 100 run for the loss of one wicket in 9.1 overs when heavy rain stopped the game.

Earlier, riding on hard-hitting Chris Gayle´s 54 runs and Marlon Samuels 50 runs West Indies scored 191 runs fir the loss of eight wickets.

Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets for Australia.
