Addressing the valedictory session of the World Wellness Women’s Congress, organised by the World Wellness Organisation, she said: “We have 33 percent reservation for women in local bodies. We have started many movements for women’s empowerment. But a majority of women in the country are still confined to the kitchen.”
She said discrimination begins in the womb. Many parents want to abort the female foetus.
A baby boy is breast-fed for longer time than a girl child; he is given more nutritious food and is sent to a good school because the parents think that the boy is going to take care of the family, she said.
“On the other hand, a girl is married off even before she becomes 15 years old and she suffers ill-treatment from the hands of in-laws for dowry at a tender age. Moreover, as she grows up, a woman faces various kinds of atrocities from the society,” the Minister said.
She said the only solution to this problem is educating the women. “We must educate a woman to believe in herself. She must be taught she is not inferior to men. We must give her that kind of education which will help her live a better life. It should be a holistic education which gives her wellness,” the Minister suggested.
“When we educate the women, we are educating the entire world” she added.

Love results in wellness
Speaking on the occasion, former vice-chancellor of Manipal University Prof B M Hegde said, “The first school of a child is its mother. So educate the woman. If women are educated and they are well, the future generations also will be well. It brings about universal compassion. The child will learn to love all. And love results in wellness.”
He defined wellness as enthusiasm to work and enthusiasm to be passionate. According to him, moderate eating and keeping the mind away from anger are the secrets of longevity.
Your Spiritual DNA is perfect
Earlier in the day, Bob Proctor, author and famous teacher of the concept of positive thinking, spoke about the infinite potential of each and every individual.
He said, “We are spiritual beings living in physical sphere. The Spiritual DNA of each person is perfect. It needs no modification. What is needed is that we must open it.”
He said ideas become paradigms. Paradigms are habits — an individual’s habits and other people’s habits which are passed on from generation to generation. “Change one idea and you can change the entire paradigm. And by changing the paradigm, you can change the entire world,” he said.
“Hold in your mind the image of the person you want to be and you will be that person,” he said, and showed the picture of a small cat looking into the mirror and seeing itself reflected as a lion.
