Bangalore: Amid efforts by the BJP central leadership to end the crisis in Karnataka, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today accused the dissidents of trying to destabilise his government when the state was grappling with the worst-ever flood disaster.

A day after indicating his willingness for a patch-up with rebels led by Ministers Karunakara Reddy, Janardhana Reddy and Sreeramulu, who have been spearheading a campaign to oust him, Yeddyurappa said "some politicians" were "fighting for the chair".

"In this hour of crisis when lakhs of people have been rendered homeless in the floods and are suffering, some politicians are trying to destabilise the government which does not befit them. They are fighting for the chair. The interests of the state cannot be pledged. I will never allow it," he said.

Speaking after unveiling a Rs five stamp in memory of Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar at a function here on the occasion of the 54th Kannada Rajyotsava-- state formation day-- celebrations, Yeddyurappa said he was "not fighting for the chair".

Hitting out at the rebel camp, most of whom are in Hyderabad and Goa, he said "we should not try to create such a situation that we have to bow our heads before the people".

"There is a need to face the crisis (flood) together)," Yeddyurappa said, appealing to the people to be "united in this critical hour".
