Zee chief to sue Jindal for defamation

New Delhi: Zee Group chairman Subhash Chandra on Sunday said he will file a defamation case against Congress MP and industrialist Naveen Jindal after he and his son were questioned by the Crime Branch of Delhi police for the second day in connection with an extortion case.

Exiting the Crime Branch offices late Sunday Chandra told reporters that the questioning "has ended as of now" and he would cooperate with the police if they called him again, if needed.

Earlier on Saturday, he had appeared before investigators for interrogation regarding the extortion case against two Zee News journalists filed by Jindal.

Chandra, along with his lawyers, came to the Crime Branch office in Chanakyapuri for questioning.

On Monday, he was issued a notice to face interrogation.

A Delhi court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to Chandra and his son till Dec 14 in the case.

The court on Monday had dismissed the bail pleas of the two journalists of Zee News channel, who were arrested over charges of trying to extort Rs 100 crore from Jindal by manipulating their reportage on the alleged coal block allocation scam.

Sudhir Chaudhary, head of Zee News, and Samir Ahluwalia, head of Zee Business, were arrested late last month on charges of extortion filed by Jindal's company Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL).

They are presently lodged in Tihar jail.
