If you leave out hockey and the aberration of Norman Pritchard, the Britisher who won two silvers for India in the 1900 Olympics, then India won just one Bronze medal in about 100 years on the eve of the 1996 edition.
That's downright miserable.
After that it’s been slightly uphill. We won an individual Bronze in both the 1996 and 2000 editions followed by Silver in 2004. 2008 was our best performance with one Gold and two Bronzes.
So it is but natural to hope to keep getting better. There must be at least 8-10 Indians who are hopeful of getting a medal in London.
While past Indian medal winners will be around veteran woman World Boxing Champion Mary Kom will get her first crack at an Olympic Gold.
