The 1934 World Cup was hosted by the soon-to-be-reviled fascist leader Benito Mussolini`s Italy. Unlike in the first World Cup, teams had to qualify in order to take part. Sixteen teams - 12 from Europe, three South Americans (holders Uruguay being the notable absentee) and one African nation, Egypt - lined up for the finals. In Pic:
