1978 World Cup
The World Cup in Argentina was played out against a backdrop of a military junta in a nervous country where thousands of citizens had disappeared amid rumour of murder and torture. In the end all teams agreed to go but the greatest footballer of the moment, Johan Cruyff, refused on moral principle to play and the cup was deprived of its greatest star. In Pic: Argentine President Jorge Rafael Videla (centre) after he had presented the World Cup Trophy to Argentine`s captain Daniel Passarella (No 19).
