Rahul Dravid has hung up his boots at the age of 39 after a long and distinguished international career. We pay tribute by presenting 39 facts about the legend:
1 - Dravid is of Tamil ancestry from his father's side. The Dravids migrated north to Maharashtra a few centuries ago and took the surname after the 'Dravida' region from which they hailed.
2 - Dravid's father worked for Kissan, a company best known for producing jam, and thus he was bestowed with the nickname Jammy by his classmates at St. Joseph's Boys' High School.
3 - Dravid has a degree in commerce from St. Joseph's College of Commerce, Bangalore.
4- He made his Ranji Trophy debut in 1991 against Maharashtra in Pune scoring 82 after batting in the No. 7 position, the same position at which he would bat on his Test debut.
5 - Dravid made his ODI debut before his Test debut, against Sri Lanka in Singapore in April 1996. He made 3 before being caught by wicket keeper Romesh Kaluwitharana off Muttiah Muralitharan.
