While our woeful form on foreign Test tours continues, there have been some heartening features of the recent series in South Africa and New Zealand (that had two Tests each).
As they say: You can either call the glass half-full or half-empty. A look at some of the positives…
1. 0-2 not 0-4: This may sound silly, but we did manage to draw two Tests. When 0-4 happened in England in 2011 a lot of people brushed it under the carpet and said it was a freak tour and wouldn’t happen again. But lightning did strike twice and we went in for another 0-4 in Australia.
That may well have happened in SA-NZ, but our boys did manage to pull it back in two Tests. When you are losing so heavily on foreign pitches, sometimes drawing becomes the first step to winning. If our boys can take this fighting spirit forward and put in extra effort, then they might actually win 1-2 Tests in the upcoming England tour.
