The Big 3 of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman failed under him. The hugely successful opening batting pair of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir failed under him. Dhoni lost his Midas touch under him.
It is clear that he is not suited for the Indian team. It is time to cut his tenure short like Chappell and go in for a new coach.
3. Make retirement plans: The Indian management has never been able to handle the retirement plans of its superstars. Dravid exited by himself, saving trouble for the selectors. But the retirement of Laxman was totally botched up. That issue could have been handled with much more grace.
Such mishaps spell trouble for team spirit and affect the team in the long run. Zaheer Khan may have to be retired from T20s and ODIs to prolong his Test career. Tendulkar’s retirement plans are also being discussed in the public domain. The BCCI should have a sound retirement plan for all its ageing players.
