Usman Qadir, who is the son of Pakistan great Abdul Qadir and has taken a remarkable 30 wickets for the Adelaide Cricket Club this season, is under Australia's radar and there is a push for him to seek Australian citizenship, which he could qualify for next year.

Craig Cook, the same man who brought his father to the Carlton Cricket Club in Melbourne in the late 1990s when he took a record 72 wickets in a season, lured the young Qadir to Adelaide from Lahore.

Qadir senior claimed 236 wickets in 67 Tests and Cook believes the champion's son is also of potential international standard, having played occasional first-class cricket in Pakistan before heading to Australia where he has already been chosen in the Redbacks' Futures League side.

"He's a different style, he's a taller player so he doesn't have that flurry that Abdul had," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Cook, as saying.

"But he's got all the skills - wrong 'uns, and flippers and that sort of thing," he added.

Cook said he had asked Qadir junior to think about applying for citizenship and will meet with him and South Australian officials on December 15.
