Paul Gascoigne's old pal Chris Evans has expressed hope his friend would emerge victorious in his battle against booze after the England football legend was taken to hospital following a bad reaction while withdrawing from alcohol.
Gazza was flown to rehab in Phoenix, Arizona after footage emerged of him at a charity event looking distressed and incoherent, the Daily Mirror reports.
Radio 2 DJ Evans is among a group of the footballer's friends, including Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Lord Sugar and Ronnie Irani, to help pay for treatment.
At the weekend, Gazza, 45, was taken to hospital after a bad reaction while withdrawing from alcohol at the Meadows clinic.
Evans said he receives get regular updates but he hasn't had one for a couple of days, adding Gazza is still in intensive care as far as he knows.
Evans added he doesn't get busy where that is concerned, adding he leaves all that to the experts but said he should have another update on Friday.
Evans said he is feeling hopeful otherwise he wouldn't be doing it, adding they have got to help Gazza if they can.
Gascoigne, who played for Newcastle United, Glasgow Rangers, Lazio and Tottenham Hotspurs among other, has received the backing from current and former Premier League stars. (ANI)
