Everton footballer Sylvain Distin has claimed that staying away from women, alcohol and seedy London nightclubs is the best way for a French footballer to succeed in the English game.
The French defender said that it is easy for a French player to lose himself in cosmopolitan London, as people in the English capital drink, carouse, and party far more than in France, the Sun reports.
Advising players from France not to fall in these 'traps', Distin said that he was lucky that he had always played for provincial clubs and had never been tempted.
The Frenchman further that in such cases, the education of a player and the people around him makes the difference, and added that it is important for a foreign player to quickly adapt to the local tradition so that he does not get isolated.
The Everton defender, 35, will have played more matches in English football than any other Frenchman after his 400th appearance against Norwich on Saturday night, the report added. (ANI)
