Ashley Giles has claimed hitting off well with captain Alastair cook has eased him into life as England's one-day coach.

Giles took over white ball duties from team director Andy Flower for this month's 3-2 defeat to India, and even though they got off to a losing start, the former Warwickshire tactician feels he and Cook have hit it off, the Sun reports.

Giles said he has enjoyed it, and he added that coming to India, he couldn't have got a much tougher start.

Giles further said when you first come in as a coach you are a little nervous, you're almost not yourself, but if you can't get on with the captain, Cook in this case, you are going to struggle to get on with anyone.

Giles and England flew on to New Zealand last night, while Cook has returned home for a short break.

The one-day and Test captain will rejoin the party on February 9, where Stuart Broad leads the Twenty20 side first up. (ANI)
