Manti Te'o has blasted rumours that he was allegedly the mastermind behind his dead girlfriend prank.
The 21-year-old linebacker told ESPN in an off-camera interview on Friday that "there is no way" he was part of the recently exposed hoax involving his dead girlfriend Lennay Kekua, the New York Post reported.
He said that the man who carried out the lie, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, had apologized on Twitter.
"I wasn't faking it," he said. "I wasn't part of this. When they hear the facts they'll know."
Teo said that he still believed that his dead girlfriend existed until Tuiasosopo admitted to the hoax in a Twitter message sent to him.
The football star admitted to making up a false story in front of his father about how he met his "girlfriend" in Hawaii.
He also said that he told reporters that he and Kekua had met in person as he thought the real story of his purely online relationship would be too strange for people to believe. (ANI)
