India beat Pakistan in hockey as medals tally rises to 22

India beat Pakistan in hockey as medals tally rises to 22


Guangzhou: India defeated traditional rivals Pakistan 3-2 in a men's hockey group B match at the Asian Games here Saturday, while a silver in golf and a bronze in snooker took the country's tally to 22 after the eighth day of competition.

India's Sania Mirza dispatched second-seeded Thai Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-2, 6-3 to move into the women's singles tennis semifinals, while Somdev Devvarman and Karan Rastogi entered the men's singles quarterfinals.

Drag-flicker Sandeep Singh converted two penalty corners for India, while Dharamvir Singh slotted one in men's hockey. Rehan Butt and Shakeel Abbasi scored for Pakistan. India led 2-1 at half-time.
