The country's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, Abhinav Bindra is the latest in a string of shooters to have received that honour in previous mega events, with Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore being the flag bearer in the last Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
Bindra, however, is the only one of them to have won an Olympic gold medal and richly deserves his star status.
He is one of numerous medal hopefuls in the Indian shooting contingent, which will be keen to overhaul its collection of 27 medals at the Melbourne Games, including a staggering 16 golds (of the 22 that India won in all).
Keep an eye out especially for Tejaswini Sawant, India's first woman to win a gold medal at the World Championships in the 50m Rifle Prone event in Munich.
