The two teams that face-off in today's match have a few common traits, the most prominent one being they both know what it feels like to finish last in the IPL and consistently lose more than win.
The difference is that the Deccan Chargers know the opposite feeling too, while the Kolkata Knight Riders have never got a taste of what it feels like to be in the top half of the table at the business end of the IPL.
That is what Kolkata will be attempting to change, and with half the tournament already done, the chances of rebounding if you fall behind in the table are getting slimmer.
Both teams are on 6 points each, but Kolkata have played one more match than Deccan. The same two teams kicked off the IPL of 2010, and in that first match Kolkata looked like a changed team, with new fire and vigour - so very different from 2009.
However, althought they haven't slipped back into 2009 oblivion yet - they have definitely slid from the highs of beating Deccan and Bangalore consecutively.
Kolkata need to make some hard decisions if they want to turn their fortunes more upwards, and chief amongst them is the team selection.
