Last-gasp US beat Algeria to qualify

Algeria, US, FIFA world cup 2010

The United States scored a last-gasp winner to beat Algeria and qualify for the last 16 of the World Cup after a pulsating and even match in which both sides had plenty of chances.

Landon Donovan got the vital winner in the second minute of injury time just as it seemed the U.S. were about to go out of the tournament.

"I have been on a long journey the last four years. I'm just shocked and so proud of our guys, unbelievable," Donovan told U.S. television after the match. "We're alive, baby."
