Veteran Australia batsman Michael Hussey has announced retirement from international cricket in a shocking development as he was enjoying a rich vein of form recently.
The 37-year old Hussey made the surprise announcement on Channel Nine Saturday news bulletin, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Hussey has played 78 Tests averaging 51.53. After a form slump two seasons ago, he has returned to vintage form, scoring centuries against South Africa and Sri Lanka and his lowest score this summer is 23.
After Hussey made 115 not out in the First Test at Hobart two weeks ago, the Sri Lanka coach Graham Ford said he thought Hussey could do what Ricky Ponting could not, and play on into his 40s
However, Hussey proved Ford wrong by retiring from cricket even before turning 38. (ANI)
