Andy Murray overcame a spirited Roger Federer in a titanic five-set struggle in the second semifinal of the Australian Open 6-4 6-7 6-3 6-7 6-2.
Murray had a golden chance to serve for the match at 6-5 in the fourth set but was broken. Federer went on to win the tie-break to level the match at two sets apiece.
However Murray came out all guns blazing in the final set and wrapped up the match.
Going into the game, Federer had never lost to Murray in a Grand Slam tournament, winning their previous three meetings at this level, most recently in the Wimbledon final last year.
The victory took Murray's overall head to head record against Federer to 11-9.
Murray will play defending champion and World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the final on Sunday.
The last time the two met in a Grand Slam final was at the US Open last year, when Murray won his maiden Grand Slam title.
