Olympic torch lit atop Mount Everest

A Chinese mountaineering team carrying the Olympic flame launched the final assault on Mount Everest on Thursday, setting out before dawn to reach top of the world`s tallest mountain.

The support team celebrate at base camp after the Chinese climbers reached the summit of Mount Everest with the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games torches on May 8, 2008, in an historic moment for China exactly three months ahead of the Beijing Games.
