India A batsmen belted Australian spinners Nathan Lyon, Xavier Doherty and Ashton Agar on day one of their practice match in Chennai, as the spin trio went for 244 runs together, suggesting that the visiting team is in for a very tough test in the subcontinent.
Left-arm spinner Agar made his first-class debut for Western Australia last month and there he was on Saturday bowling to India A captain and dumped Test opener Gautam Gambhir, News.com.au reports.
The 19-year-old was introduced to the bowling crease in the first over after lunch at Chennai's Guru Nanak College Ground, and left-hander Gambhir helped himself to two consecutive sixes during Agar's first over to bring up his half-century, it reported.
By stumps on day one of the three-day game, India A were 4-338 and Agar had 0-78 off 13 overs, while Gambhir was back in the sheds after scoring 112 including 13 fours and three sixes, the paper said.
Agar's fellow left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty claimed 3-69 on day one while off spinner Nathan Lyon took 0-97 off 20 overs.
Left-arm spinner Doherty admitted all of them struggled against quality batsmen like Gambhir and Rohit Sharma, adding it was a learning experience for three of them. (ANI)
