Pace legend Dennis Lillee has backed Cricket Australia's (CA) controversial rotation policy, saying giving players timely rests has become a reality in modern-day cricket.

Lillee said he thought rotation was necessary even 20 years ago, but now it's a reality, News.com.au reports.

Lillee added the rest given to a player is not just a rest, but it's rehab and conditioning, which would include cardio and some good core strength work.

The fast bowling great added that the experience he has had working with Australia's senior bowlers in the past is that sometimes its not being addressed as well as it could be.

Lillee further added that most of that blame can be put down to the fact there is a lot of cricket on so players don't have the time to work on their conditioning but somehow the authorities got to address the issues.

Lillee said the reality of cricket is that players do need active rest, as there is very little in the way of a preseason nowadays.

Australia's greatest quick added that the preseason was a way of building up all the areas a player needed to address then kept them topped up during the season, adding if a player don't have a proper preseason he has got to somehow get some work in and make sure that in all areas your levels aren't dropping.

Lillee further said that this is a double-edged sword really, as just having games off doesn't help the fitness side of it, adding the authorities got to look into it a lot more as it's pretty complex really. (ANI)
