Pakistan on Thursday night released sketches of four suspects believed to be involved in the audacious gun and grenade attack on the Sri Lankan team at Lahore, but made little headway in tracking down the dozen terrorists who fled after the incident as investigators picked up about 50 people for questioning.
Fresh television footage showed three suspected armed terrorists entering a by-lane near the Liberty Chowk where the gunmen sprayed bullets on the bus ferrying the Sri Lankan cricket team to Gaddafi stadium.
The sketches of the youths, believed to be in the age group 20 to 25, were made on the basis of eyewitness accounts.
Investigators claimed to have uncovered `some details and important leads that would eventually unearth the people responsible` for the attack, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told reporters at a joint press conference with his Sri Lankan counterpart Rohitha Bogollagama.
Qureshi, who did not give any details, said these findings have been shared with Bogollagama.
The suspects were detained during raids by a special investigation team on hostels and guest houses in Lahore`s Gulberg area, located near Liberty Chowk traffic roundabout where the bus was ambushed on Tuesday (March 3) morning leaving seven players and an assistant coach injured and eight people dead.
Three Nigerians were also detained and information provided by them led to the detention of as many Uzbeks and an Afghan national in Quetta, Dawn news channel quoted its sources as saying.
