• Both are top run-getters: Tendulkar aggregating 15562 runs to Ponting’s 13366 runs and most fifty-plus knocks to their credit:
Tendulkar – 116 and Ponting – 103.

• Both have played most Test innings for their respective teams: Tendulkar – 317 and Ponting – 285.

• While Ponting enjoys a unique honour of notching up a century of victories (exactly 100) as captain, Tendulkar on the other hand has posted century of centuries in international cricket (51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs).

• Both have scored their respective last Test hundreds in the month of January – Ponting early this year with 221 against India at Adelaide
while Tendulkar did so last year with 146 against South Africa at Cape Town.

• Both have crossed the age barrier of 37 years – Ponting is 37 years & 346 days old while Tendulkar is senior to him by two years at 39
years and 219 days.

• Both confined to strokes all along the ground rather than lofted ones which is reflected in their tally of sixes which is almost identical: Ponting scoring 73 to Tendulkar’s 67.

• Both failed to score a triple hundred in their illustrious career: Ponting’s highest score being 257 against India at Melbourne in 2003 while that of Tendulkar’s is 248 not out against Bangladesh a year later in 2004.

• Both have identical number of double centuries to their credit: six each!
