Amidst all the off-the-field drama that is going on, the IPL continues its long run towards the closing stages of the league phase, and while the administrators are locked in a fierce battle to score points over each other, the teams face much the same situation - although with considerably less mud being slung.
Punjab are all but out of the tournament, with only a remote theoretical possibility of qualifying for the semi-finals. But that possibility is even more remote than Lalit Modi being invited to Shashi Tharoor's house as the guest of honour, so for all practical purposes, Punjab have only pride to play for.
However, as they showed against Mumbai and Delhi, they are capable of playing pretty well, and maybe the release of qualifying pressure has freed their game. They are certainly looking like a much more confident side than the one that was being thumped by all comers in the IPL till a fortnight ago.
