Ruud Gullit reckons Chelsea have 'no chance' of retaining European Cup this season

Former Blues player and manager Ruud Gullit has told Chelsea that they have virtually no chance of retaining the Champions League title and also reckons that Roberto Di Matteo could be set for an early exit.

Di Matteo's European champions face Juventus in Turin on Tuesday and are in danger of crashing out at the group stage, with the Italian's job apparently on the line.

They are currently second in Group E, level on points with leaders Shakhtar Donetsk and one point ahead of the Italians.

But Gullit thinks the club he played for and managed will struggle to make an impact on the competition even if they go through to the last 16.

"Chelsea winning it last year was a surprise, I don't think they can do it again. They are trying to change the way they play and are having mixed results, so they will have to work very hard to reach the latter stages again," the Daily Mirror quoted Gullit, as saying.

According to the report, the Dutchman, who was at the club between 1995 and 1998 both as a player and a manager, thinks Chelsea will need some more time to experience any further European success.

"I think Chelsea can be very strong in England. Di Matteo has bought some players who are more attacking than before. They will take some time to adjust the way they play and they will go on more ups and downs before they reach the top again," he added. (ANI)
