I am not lonely. I have wonderful friends around me. I have a few close friends, like any other person does. I am really fortunate to have them around me. I'm not fond of parties or excessive socialisation as such. That is what I meant. I am lucky to have the friends that I have. Whatever I achieve, what ever happiness I receive in life, I share them with my friends. Sharing these emotions with them multiplies my happiness.
Is that why after scoring your 100th 100 you said, "After scoring it, I feel a 50 kilos lighter”? Because you were being accused of focusing on your personal victories rather than on the country's achievement?
Not really. We always go out there to score big runs and whatever personal records people have created have been celebrated. Whatever I have done, good or bad, was for India. The intention has always been clear: that I want to go and win this match. And during that there are things you are able to achieve and things you are unable to achieve and that is beyond my control. I always go out and give my best.
Beyond that, it is in the Almighty's control. I believe pre-match preparation is extremely important because it makes you realise that you have prepared yourself to the best of your abilities, to deliver. That is where the commitment lies. After that you have to go out and try your best. You need to hope that your practice works for you. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
