Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara has advised his teammates to avoid getting overawed by the Boxing Day stage during the second Test match against Australia in Melbourne.

Sangakkara heads into the second Test against Australia at the MCG needing just 40 runs to reach the coveted 10,000-run milestone and join a select group of just 10. The 35-year-old has taken 114 Tests to score his 9960 runs, which has included 30 centuries, reports.

Sri Lanka will make its first Test appearance on the MCG since 1995 as it continues to look for its first Test win in Australia.

Sangakkara said he expected the support of a large Sri Lankan contingent in the Boxing Day crowd, and added that it would affect the mentality of the side when they see such a lot of support in a foreign country.

The veteran also said such a massive support could lift them up, but warned his teammates that they could also get carried away by the occasion, by the emotions, and advised them to be pretty calculated, pretty rational in everything they do. (ANI)
