The Commonwealth Games helped India project itself as a global destination for sports. No doubt, it established India as a major sporting power among the world fraternity but concurrently the rampant corruption, nepotism and misappropriation of funds dented India's image on the world stage too.
The build-up to the Games was mired with controversies with a few members of the Organising Committee involved in nepotism during the Queen's Baton Rally in London. Soon more skeletons tumbled out of the closet, as there were a lot of discrepancies and favouritism found while scrutinising many tenders for the CWG.
India, steering itself through lots of chaos and commotion, hosted a near perfect Games at the end leaving the whole world gobsmacked.
