Roger Federer of Switzerland extended the world record for the most single Grand Slam titles in the history of tennis when he pocketed his 16th crown at the Australian Open on Sunday. He now enjoys a clear lead of two Grand Slam titles over United States' Pete Sampras whose record he beat at last year's Wimbledon.
