The Games village kitchen and its challenges

The Games village kitchen

New Delhi: It's a challenging task to feed 13,000 athletes and players three times a day for about a fortnight. But the executive chefs at the Commonwealth Village are relishing the culinary challenge.

Ajoy Sood and Jatinder Uppal, the two executive chefs along with 250 cooks, are keeping them - both non-vegetarians and vegetarians - happy and healthy with different lip-smacking dishes.

Jatinder said: 'It's indeed a huge challenge. But we are enjoying it. We are working for 16 hours every day during the whole period of the Games. We are doing it for the pride of the country.'

'There are seven counters in the dining hall: Pizza section, Indian tandoor, African, Indian (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian), Asian, Western, and Sizzling Salads. Of these, six sections are kept open 24 hours. Any person coming any time is served.'
