The 'M' factor in Australian cricket

Mark Waugh,Matthew Hayden,Michael Clarke,Michael Hussey

Although Australia has lost three of the last four Test series, comprising three or more matches, in India, four different batsmen with their first name beginning with 'M' have the distinction of topping the batting averages for them in those rubbers.

The reference is to Mark Waugh, Matthew Hayden, Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey. The first two players have retired while the last two are very much part of the current touring squad.

The full details of their performance are as follows:

Mark Waugh in 1997-98:

India won the three-match series 2-1. Middle-order batsman Mark Waugh remains the only batsman for visitors and fifth in the series, to cross 200-run barrier.

He made 280 runs with the help of a century and a fifty at an average 70.00. In the first test at Chennai, he made patient 66 in three hours which was in vain.

However his unbeaten innings of 153 which includes 13 fours and four sixes, helped Australia to post eight-wicket triumph.
