The exploits of the pugnacious left-hander from Zimbabwe over three visits to India were as unexpected as they were dramatically successful.
In the one-off Test in 1993 he top scored in both innings with 115 and 62 not out.
But this was just a prelude to a remarkable feat in the two-Test series in 2000 during which he amassed 540 runs at a stupendous average of 270 with an unbeaten century in the first match and an unbeaten double hundred in the second.
The following year he had a rather mediocre tour scoring just 103 runs in the two matches but overall Flower's tally of 820 runs from five Tests at an average of 117.14 makes for truly incredible reading.
