All rounder Shane Watson's hopes of making a come back in the Test squad were decimated after Australia named an unchanged side for the second Test against South Africa in Adelaide, which begins on Thursday.
Watson failed to prove his fitness after missing the first Test in Brisbane with a calf strain and Mitchell Starc is again 12th man.
The selectors kept the faith with Ben Hilfenhaus, given he played so well against India last summer after returning from a long-term knee injury.
Captain Michael Clarke claimed that Watson's fitness had improved significantly over the past few days but he had run out of time.
"He's a few days short of being 100 per cent. We're doing everything in our power to be right for the third Test in Perth," News.com.au quoted Clarke, as saying.
"He's certainly come a long way," he added. (ANI)
