What the Aussie press said on Day 4 of the Sydney Test
Rumours of an Indian pulse in Sydney had been greatly exaggerated. While Sachin Tendulkar and V.V.S. Laxman were still at the crease in the period immediately after lunch, there remained the faint belief the unsalvageable might be salvaged.

Inevitably, the tooth fairy was revealed to be a fraud. The tourists' back was broken in the early afternoon, with the dismissals of Tendulkar for 80 and Laxman for 66. The rest of the afternoon was a victory lap for Michael Clarke's side, safe in the knowledge that a 2-0 series lead was assured, if not for some extended lower-order annoyance.

With the 38-year-old nearing the milestone, up popped Clarke to bring him down...Like an elderly man or woman who loses the will to live after the passing of their partner, Laxman followed shortly after.
